WHO WEARE.

Ashwa Racing is the Formula Student team of RV College of Engineering, Bengaluru — engineering combustion, hybrid, and electric race cars, a driverless programme now in development, and a hyperloop pod, through two decades of competition.

Who We
Are

Founded on 22 November 2003 under the Ashwa Mobility Foundation, Ashwa Racing is the oldest technical student team at RV College of Engineering and one of India's premier collegiate motorsports teams — with consistent national and international Formula Student participation spanning over two decades.

Every member holds both a technical and a managerial role, with 120+ interdisciplinary undergraduates spanning mechanical, electrical, electronics, and computer science working across combustion, hybrid, electric, and driverless programmes at any given time.

Mission and Vision
Mission & Vision
02 — Purpose

Built to
Lead.

Our vision is to become a national leader across Formula Student categories and drive sustainable, autonomous mobility through student-led innovation.

Our mission is to provide industry-grade engineering exposure, foster academic-industry collaboration, and develop high-performance prototypes — across every powertrain and into driverless systems — that push the limits of what students can build.

History &
Impact

Over two decades, Ashwa Racing has built more than 20 prototype race cars across combustion, hybrid, and electric powertrains — from the RZ05, Asia's first student-built car at Formula SAE Australasia, to the current RZ-XX6-C combustion platform and an active electric programme. Alumni now lead engineering teams across India's top automotive and technology companies.

Three
Powertrains.

Ashwa Racing was the first Indian Formula Student team to design, build, and test prototypes across all three powertrain categories. Our combustion line runs deepest — the current RZ-XX6-C finished 6th overall at Formula Bharat 2026, with a top-5 result in Engineering Design and 2nd in Business Plan Presentation. Our electric prototype runs on an Emrax 208 motor with a custom-built high-voltage accumulator, and — like our combustion car — every power electronics board, from the motor controller to the BMS, is designed, assembled, and tested in-house.

05 — What's Next

Going
Driverless.

Our newest programme takes the car off the driver's hands. We're building a driverless (DV) prototype on top of our existing platforms — a full autonomy stack covering perception, SLAM, and path planning — alongside research into ML-based power management and V2X communication suited to real-world Indian road conditions. It's the next chapter of what a student-built Ashwa car can do.

06 — Beyond the Track

Into the
Tube.

Racing isn't the only frontier. Under the Ashwa Mobility Foundation, our hyperloop team designed and built Ashwa's first hyperloop pod, then took it to European Hyperloop Week 2024 in Zürich — competing against 26+ university teams from around the world. It's the same systems-engineering rigour we bring to the car, aimed at a completely different mode of transport.

More Than
One Car.

The Ashwa Mobility Foundation's scope reaches further still: a MotoStudent motorcycle programme and an Open Source Vehicle (OSV) concept, both built by the same student-engineering pipeline behind the race car and the hyperloop pod.
